Camp Galileo Week 4

Week 4 of camp has shifted into a very laxed environment and it’s apparent that everyone has gotten used to the system and how everything goes. I think I have been enjoying my breaks and time playing with the kids at lunch a little more than I should. As an active person I play basketball and frisbee and present a challenge for the campers to overcome. Outdoor activities has also been a strong gateway with kids who are eager to get exercise. Campers always favor me on their team or ask for feedback from me when playing. For example, when I join in on basketball games, kids ask about proper shooting techniques and are amazed when I dunk on the shorter courts.

I have also cycled through all morning/daily duties and have noticed they are pretty fun. Most of it just leads to preparation for next week for the incoming campers. Throughout the process I have come to learn that every institution, company, or group of people develop a system and this system is crucial in regards of efficiency and comfortability. I touched upon this a little before but I feel like this week, everyone knew everyone. For example we now have all exchanged contact information and have even been interacting over social media. I feel as if Galileo is a new friend group like I would encounter at a school; it’s weird how even a work environment can form cliques and friend groups. I have formed a well rounded circle with some summer interns,a couple lead instructors and some team leaders; however I mainly just interact with other interns. Overall this week, I am pretty happy with camp and have even started getting to know individual campers.
